Usage¶
Hue Shifting¶
Shift all colors by 30 degrees on the color wheel.Vibrance Enhancement¶
Increase color vibrancy while protecting skin tones.Highlight/Shadow Recovery¶
Recover blown highlights and lift shadow detail.Color Grading¶
Professional color grading treatment.Tone Mapping Guide¶
Hue (Color Wheel Shifting)¶
- 0°: No change (red remains red)
- 60°: Red → Yellow, Green → Cyan, Blue → Magenta
- 120°: Red → Green, Green → Blue, Blue → Red
- 180°: Complete color inversion
- 240°: Red → Blue, Green → Red, Blue → Green
- 300°: Red → Magenta, Green → Yellow, Blue → Cyan
Vibrance vs Saturation¶
Vibrance provides intelligent color enhancement:
- Protects skin tones from over-saturation
- Boosts muted colors more than already-vivid colors
- More natural results than uniform saturation
- Ideal for portraits and mixed-content images
Highlights (-100 to 0)¶
- -100: Maximum highlight recovery (darkens bright areas)
- -50: Moderate highlight reduction
- -20: Subtle highlight taming
- 0: No highlight adjustment
Shadows (0 to +100)¶
- +100: Maximum shadow lifting (brightens dark areas)
- +50: Moderate shadow enhancement
- +20: Subtle shadow detail recovery
- 0: No shadow adjustment
Use Cases¶
Portrait Enhancement¶

Processing Order¶
Tone adjustments are applied in sequence:
1. Hue shift (color wheel rotation)
2. Vibrance adjustment
3. Highlights adjustment
4. Shadows adjustment
Advanced Techniques¶
Split Toning Effect¶
Create color contrast between highlights and shadows.Color Isolation¶
Shift specific colors while desaturating others.Cross Processing¶
Emulate film cross-processing effects.Best Practices¶
Natural Results¶
- Keep hue shifts under ±30° for realistic looks
- Use vibrance over saturation for portraits
- Subtle highlight/shadow adjustments (±20-40) for natural HDR
Creative Effects¶
- Large hue shifts (90°-180°) for artistic color schemes
- Extreme highlight/shadow recovery for dramatic looks
- Combine with style effects for complex treatments
Performance¶
- All tone adjustments processed in single optimized pass
- Results cached globally for fast delivery
- Combine parameters for efficient processing
